HOW IT WORKS:

  • First choose your course and enrol with Alice Muir Training.  Follow  the course provided.
  • After following this basic course, you will be enrolled with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and take your chosen course/topic further as a GCU 'Work Based Learning' module, still with Alice Muir as your tutor, and still as a distance learning student.
  • You can choose the level you want to work at, as well as the number of credits/CATS points you can achieve *.  Extra study time will be needed for this, over and above the basic course guidelines, and this varies depending on the level and number of credits/CATS points being worked towards, and your speed of working, but as a rough estimate, over and above the basic course time Indicated, you may need a further 20-30 hours of work for each 10 credits.
  • This offers you the opportunity to go Into more depth on the course content by designing your own level and amount of learning, and focusing on a specific area of practice which Is of Interest to you.
  • Work Based Learning modules can be used as part of a BSc / BSc (Hons) Professional Development, or as part of a Graduate Certificate / Diploma (for existing graduates).

FEATURES OF WORK BASED LEARNING

  • can take place In a paid or voluntary 'workplace'
  • focuses on tasks arising in the workplace, in particular how to address specific practice situations or problems.
  • is autonomously managed with the learner taking on the major responsibility for ensuring that they learn from their work activities through reflection
  • promotes active learning and is concerned with updating knowledge and enhancing  performance
  • Learners will require to be working in an area ( paid or voluntary) where the learning outcomes can be achieved, and will be linked with a mentor who will facilitate their progress through the module.

WORK BASED LEARNING MODULES

  • Through the use of 'learning contracts' learners can develop work based activities that are relevant and contemporary, and relate to one of four 'themes':
      • Analysis of Practice
      • Management of Care
      • Practice Development
      • Generic work based learning

FLEXIBLE LEVEL AND CREDIT

  • You can choose to study at SHE/SCQF Level 3/9 or 4/10.
  • You can choose to study for 10, 20, 30 and 40 credit  (CATS points).

FLEXIBLE DISTANCE LEARNING

  • There are no scheduled classes for Work Based Learning modules but learners are expected to maintain regular contact with their academic supervisor/tutor via email, telephone or meetings.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment comprises three parts:

  1. Negotiated assessment item appropriate to the level and number of credits e.g. literature review, case study, etc. to  provide evidence of achievement of the learning outcomes
  2. Practice portfolio to demonstrate reflection on the learning which has taken place during learning activities
  3. Learning contract

  • The basic fee given by Alice Muir Training (AMT) covers the basic course, and CPD certification from AMT.
